Commissioned Lay Pastors Made Full Ministers of Word and Sacrament

In a move that has surprised many the Committee on Ministry of the Presbytery of Silly Walks in the Pines has decided to forward a proposal giving the Presbytery’s Commissioned Lay Pastors the opportunity to become Ministers in Full Standing after 20 years of service.

“We just believe that there should be some way that these servants should be able to change their standings. These are our people, we know them and after a certain amount of time we realize that they shouldn’t be at a second tier status,” argues COM chair Peabody McFreeman.

Over the past the most strenuous to oppose such moves have been the clergy themselves. Many, like Rev. Stanley Hudsucker think that no amount of practical time in the parish “takes the place of a seminary degree.”

The debate will continue at the January Presbytery meeting.
