Funk to the Table

First Presbyterian Church of Stoneridge believes in worshipping God with integrity and bringing the stone cold funk to their worship! Every Wednesday night at 8 p.m. they do an entire liturgy of funky R&B songs.

Entering the church the strobes and glitter are hard to miss as Barry White plays a prelude of You’re My First, My Last and My Everything. Soon the flashlights come out for the people in the congregation when Parliment’s Tear the Roof Off begins to play. Things become more pensive when Marvin Gaye sings Praise, and that is when everyone comes to the table to break bread with each other. The crowd is released singing Al Green’s disco classic Belle and they leave singing, “It is you I want, but it is him I need.”
