New Continuing Education Events

The Liberal League is presenting its annual offerings of continuing education events for clergy and laity alike. They will all be at First Presbyterian Church of Steel Junction in the Parlor. Here are the three classes being offered.

Bait and Switch Social Justice – Do you often feel uncomfortable as a liberal with power and wealth? Do you want to preform social justice without any personal risk? Then we have a class for you. During this class we will teach such invaluable lessons as how to get clergy off the subject of pay equality for women by bringing up poor people in other countries. When talking about our Presbytery’s participation in injustice we will teach you the right set of blustery emotions to say, “that was before our time!” Essential for moderates who want to appear liberal. Sept. 16, 7:00 p.m.

How To Write A Check-We will teach you the history of turning dangerous direct action into benign philanthropy. This class will also focus on how to be scientific in making people feel like they are part of something that involves giving money. Please bring a checkbook with you to class. Sept. 23, 7:00 p.m.

How To Write A Resolution– Remember the heyday when something that a denomination said about society made a political difference? We will wax nostalgic for those days. We will listen to a panel of people who wrote resolutions to the General Assembly during periods of social change and celebrate their impact on the church. We will also help you learn how to write a resolution yourself for fun and Social Justice. One component of this class will be learning where to look for the 100’s of resolutions already written and sifting through them to use as illustrations in arguments. Sept. 30, 7:00 p.m.
